Linux Server Installation Procedure

Base Server Setup

Status Task
Make sure NIC1 is configured as the primary network interface.
Setup DNS DNS records should be created for both the server and it's ilo connection
Create <server-name> and <server-name>-ilo
Firmware CDROM You may want to boot the system with a current firmware cdrom boot disk and perform all firmware updates. 1)
Apply firmware cdrom
Setup ILO Press F8 during the BIOS post when prompted
Reset to manufacture settings: File → Set Defaults → Reboot and press F8 again
Set DNS name to <server-name>-ilo: Network → DNS/DHCP
Disable DHCP: Network → DNS/DHCP 2)
Set the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address: Network → NIC and TCP/IP
Add standard account/passwd: User → Add → netadm/<see secret password list>
Exit ILO: File → Exit
Setup Bios Press F9 during the BIOS post when prompted
Reset to default: Advanced Options → Erase Non-volatile Memory
Configure IPL device order (Boot order): CDROM, Harddisk, USB, Floppy, Network
ASR Timeout → Enabled for 5 minutes
Bios Serial Console & EMS → Bios Serial Console Baud Rate = 115200
Set the BIOS date
Setup Disk Array Boot the server with a SmartSmart cdrom. Make sure you have a mouse plugged in.
Clear/Erase all existing configurations
Configure the disk array per build details
Suse installation Boot the server with SLES9 sp3 disk1. 3)
At the boot script select installation before it times out. Do not press enter. Type the following boot command line.

Post Install Setup Login as root, see standard password list
Download the post setup files, then run the post-setup script:
wget -qc http://ocdcfil006/cd/build/<build-number>/<build-number>.tar.gz -O - | tar -xz -C /sa
/sa/<build-number>/post_setup.sh HOST=<host-name> 2>&1 | tee -a /var/log/install.log
Update the system's root and netadm passwords:
passwd root
passwd netadm
Reboot the server
Setup system backups 4)
Add the server to Nagios 5)
Add the server to Cacti 6)
Create a new wiki server page 7)
Add the server's SHM page to the wiki's SMH index page 8)
Label the server front and back. Label the cables. Label the disk drives.
